About State Tax Watch
Independent site — not a government website. State Tax Watch is an independent site that aggregates publicly available data. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official website of any federal, state, or local government agency. Displayed government data remains © its respective sources; economic data is courtesy of FRED, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which does not endorse this site.
What this site is
Interactive data on every state's income tax burden. Compare rates, track interstate migration, and follow the tax-policy news and legislation shaping where Americans keep more of what they earn.
State Tax Watch is operated by AXIA Enterprises.
What we publish
- State tax data — top marginal income-tax rate, property and sales tax, median income, net domestic migration, and an overall tax-burden estimate for all 50 states and DC (2025), with editorial analysis.
- Economic indicators — national series from FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis): unemployment, payrolls, CPI, 30-year mortgage rate, and household income.
- Tax-policy news — headlines aggregated from tax and fiscal-policy outlets, each linked to its source.
- Federal tax bills — recent taxation-related legislation from Congress.gov.
How the data stays current
The site is fully static (GitHub Pages). A scheduled GitHub Actions job refetches every source once a day, rebuilds the site, and redeploys. No server runs at request time and no API key is ever exposed to the browser. If a source is temporarily unavailable, the affected section shows its last-good data or a brief notice — the site never breaks.
